I Ranked Fire Emblem: Which Fire Emblem Will You Play Next? – Retro Brandon

By Retro Brandon1 min read

New to Fire Emblem and wondering where to start? Or maybe you’re a longtime fan who’s ready to tell me why my rankings are COMPLETELY wrong?

Well, I’ve got just the video for you!

Ahead of Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, I decided to sit down and rank every Fire Emblem game released in North America. And listen, this is entirely based on my own taste. But whether you’re discovering the franchise for the first time or looking for your next game, I think it’ll give you a fun overview of what makes this series so special.

Plus, there’s plenty of room for us to disagree… respectfully. That’s half the fun!

And yes, my theory about Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave at the end of the video is probably completely wrong.

But let the record show that I tried!

Check out the ranking below, and let me know where your favorites land! A full review of Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave is coming soon!

  1. I need to play the Shadow Dragon remake. I have it on my Wii U. I tried the OG version on Switch and even though I grew up with an NES, it was still too NES for me, lol.

Engage…nah. My least favorite FE out of the ones I’ve played in terms of writing. Good gameplay, though, as you said.

I like Birthright a lot. I didn’t really care for Conquest or Revelation sadly.

Shadows of Valentia is wonderful. Fantastic voice acting and I love the dungeon aspect, as a lover of grinding.

I have Radiant Dawn on hiatus. I played it right after Path of Radiance dropped on NSO this year, and it was good, but it wasn’t hittin’ as hard.

I played Sacred Stones for the first time 2? 3? years ago and I totally loved everything about it. Eirika and Ephraim are some of the best designed characters in video games, IMO.

Path of Radiance is easily 10/10. I loved it. Ike is a great character.

I need to finish Blazing Blade. I think I got to chapter 4 and I really enjoyed it, but other stuff was coming out when I was playing it.

Like most people, Awakening made me a Fire Emblem fan. 10/10. That’s all. Lucina is my favorite Fire Emblem character.

I’ve put 340+ hours into Three Houses and it replaced Awakening as my favorite Fire Emblem. Will Fortune’s Weave usurp Three Houses? Maybe. I need to beat it first. I agree with most of your rankings, Brandon.

My own FE rankings (only listing games I’ve beaten)

Fortune’s Weave (okay I liked, I haven’t beaten this one yet, sue me. tentative ranking, but it’s been strong so far at nearly 200 hours)
    Three Houses
    Awakening
    Sacred Stones
    Path of Radiance
    Shadows of Valentia
    Fates (mostly just Birthright)
    Engage

  2. I haven’t played many FE games. Awakening was my first and I really loved that game. It’s difficult for me to choose between Awakening and Three Houses as my favourite.

I’m not sure how I feel about Fortune’s Weave yet, there’s a lot I love, but I do have my issues with it too.

I have started playthroughs of Shadows of Valentia and Path of Radiance, both are fantastic so far.

Excited to dive into the series more!
