Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Adds Final Fantasy VII and More Persona DLC – Plus a New Physical Edition!

By Retro Brandon3 min read

Apparently, Sega has decided that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds should become the Super Smash Brothers of racers.

You had your chance, Nintendo! (Who am I kidding? You still do!)

Originally released in September 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is Sega’s high-speed kart racer featuring customizable vehicles, transforming tracks, and Travel Rings that transport racers between different dimensions.

But what makes it especially interesting for JRPG fans is its growing collection of familiar faces from some of our favorite franchises.

And now, Final Fantasy VII is officially joining the fray!

Persona, Like a Dragon, and More JRPG Favorites

Sega has already brought several beloved RPG characters into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds through free updates.

Joker from Persona 5 Royal joined the roster alongside his Arsène Wing vehicle and three songs from the game. Meanwhile, Ichiban Kasuga and Goro Majima from Like a Dragon have also joined the festivities.

Because apparently saving the world and running a criminal organization weren’t enough. These guys needed racing careers, too!

The first Season Pass has also introduced crossover content from Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with Avatar Legends arriving October 13.

It’s an absolutely ridiculous lineup, and I love it.

Final Fantasy VII and Persona Are Coming in 2027!

Sega’s newly announced Season Pass Two brings even more exciting collaborations.

Most notably, a Midgar Pack based on the Final Fantasy VII Remake series is scheduled for Q3 2027, introducing two racers, a new course, a vehicle, and additional music.

Those characters haven’t officially been confirmed, but I’m already imagining the possibilities. Cloud and Sephiroth racing through Midgar? Okay, Sega!

Then, in Q4 2027, we’ll receive the Reload Revival Royal Pack, featuring two additional racers, two vehicles, and a course inspired by the Persona series.

And before that, Aigis from Persona 3 joins as a free racer in early 2027!

Other upcoming crossovers include Godzilla, Evangelion, Sanrio, and SEGALAND, while Bayonetta joins the roster for free on November 3, 2026.

Season Pass Two costs $29.99 and is separate from the first year’s DLC.

Physical collectors also have something to celebrate!

The newly announced Year One Edition, priced at $59.99, bundles the base game with Season Pass One, a reversible 35th-anniversary cover, and a commemorative logo patch.

For Nintendo Switch 2 collectors, Sega has previously confirmed that the physical base game is fully on the cartridge, not a Game-Key Card. However, the Year One Edition’s precise cartridge contents and DLC redemption method haven’t yet been independently confirmed. Its Season Pass content requires internet access.

The Year One Edition does not include Season Pass Two.

Between Persona, Final Fantasy, and all these other ridiculous crossovers, Sega is making a pretty compelling case for JRPG fans to hit the racetrack.

Now give me a Chocobo-themed kart and we’re in business!
